St Myllin's Bellringers

St. Myllin’s has had a band of ringers since 1714, when the six bells were hauled up to the belfry at the top of the 70 foot tower.

They were made by Abraham Rudhall I of Gloucester, the greatest bell-founder of the time and they are one of the best peals of bells in Wales. They look stunning – one of the treasures of the town. The old bell metal now contrasts with gleaming new red headstocks which hold the bells in their original oak frame. The bells are also attached to wheels and stays and these are the keys to British bellringing since they make it possible for us to control the bells when we ring them. We can ring fast or slow and in any order – and this makes ringing special and something you might want to try.

We’re always keen for new ringers and you certainly don’t have to be a church-goer. It takes a bit of time to learn, but once you’ve got the basics you can only get better.

Meeting time: Practice night is Monday at 6.30-8pm.
