The key elements of this service focus on 1-1 play therapy sessions, a qualified play therapist uses non-directive play therapy with children who have been affected by domestic abuse. Group workshops for children aged 3-15 years delivered in a safe, therapeutic environment. Therapeutic techniques are used throughout the sessions where appropriate.
A weekly Heart To Heart programme, which offers children and their parent/caregiver the opportunity to learn fun, gentle and child-oriented ways together to improve attachment security. It is an evidenced based programme with sessions based on collaborative games and creative activities.
Additionally the project offers child-parent relationship mentoring, a ten session filial model for supporting parents/caregivers. This programme focuses directly on the children's feelings and actions. They will understand and use therapeutic tools, which will allow for continuation of the work at home; increasing positive changes for the child as parents have the focus and skills to continue emotionally supporting them long-term. The child's trust and confidence in their parent increases, parents change their thinking and behaviour so the child feels listened to, supported and loved.
