Pobl yn Gyntaf Sir Benfro

Pembrokeshire People First is an independent charity, run by and for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, in Pembrokeshire (and with some work beyond Pembrokeshire's borders).

Our membership, which is currently over 300, are tasked with creating a manifesto, which gives us our remit. Currently, our members have asked us to focus on:
Collective advocacy – working together to campaign on issues such as accessible communication, transport in our rural community, and benefits cuts
Training – both for and by members. We run a highly successful living skills project which focuses on practical skills and developing emotional resilience to live successfully within our community. We run short training workshops on subjects as diverse as “well woman” awareness and keeping safe on social media. Additionally, we are developing training so that our members can co-deliver training to other organizations, on subjects such as Learning Disability Awareness and Human Rights.
Group advocacy – a range of self advocacy groups which provide companionship to isolated and excluded members, project work in the wider community such as raising awareness of disability hate crime, and focuses on developing emotional intelligence – understanding one’s own feelings, those of others and how they influence behavior.
