Age Connects Morgannwg

We offer a wide range of FREE services to help older people stay living in their own home and make life as easy as possible. Our dedicated staff and volunteer team offer independent and confidential information, advice and support on a variety of issues such as care, legal, health, housing, income and benefits, consumer, leisure, learning and work. We also offer some ‘paid for’ services that can keep you on your feet and help around the house. We are funded by the Local Authorities across our area of benefit to provide a range of At Home services that can help regain or maintain your independence or that of a loved one. Returning home from hospital can be daunting, even with support from family and friends. Our Hospital Discharge Service can help ease the return home with weekly support to go shopping, cope with domestic chores and rebuild confidence and skills that may have been lost whilst in hospital. For many older people, bereavement or illness, even a fall, can result in depression, a loss of confidence and independence.

Our Community Outreach and Support At Home Services can provide help, encouragement and support to people who may be struggling with the challenges of a new situation or diagnosis, such as dementia. Our aim is to help older people remain living in their own home for as long as they wish and is possible, by providing one to one support to continue doing the things they enjoy and that keep them healthy and independent.

Volunteering
Volunteering with Age Connects couldn’t be simpler! It’s about giving your time to help do something useful. In return you get the satisfaction of helping an older person or helping the charity with its business. No qualifications are necessary, all you need is a little free time, a big heart and a good sense of humour! We provide all the necessary training to make sure you learn and grow into your role. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, gain new experiences and have fun.

Nail Cutting Service
Our Nail Cutting Service is a revelation for hundreds of older people each year. For many older people, arthritic joints and tough overgrown toenails make wearing shoes and walking comfortably almost impossible.
With a number of community based clinics operating across Rhondda Cynon Taff, Bridgend and
Merthyr our specially trained staff keep people on their feet and out and about with perfectly nipped nails! If getting to one of our clinics would prove difficult, we can bring the service to your home.

Money Matters
Our confidential and independent Information and Advice Service offers a wide range of information and advice to help people live independently, stay in their own home and maximise their income.

We want to help you receive the money you’re entitled to so our Customer Advisors are fully trained
to provide high quality welfare benefits advice and support on Attendance Allowance, Council Tax/Housing Benefit, Social Fund, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Carer’s Allowance, Blue Badge and Pension Credit Applications.
If you think you might be entitled to one of these benefits or if you’d just like to talk about making the most of your money, we can help.

Independent Advocacy
Sometimes, people have difficulty in communicating their needs and wishes to family and professionals. Our Independent Advocacy Service is there for people who need extra support to speak up and challenge the decisions that are being made about their lives. If you feel that your rights and wishes are not being listened to or if you are concerned that an older person is being financially, physically, psychologically or sexually abused please get in touch, we can help make it stop.

If you are concerned that an older person is being neglected or exploited please get in touch, we can help make it stop.
