Wisdom of Equus is a not-for-profit organisation based in Minera, Wrexham, offering equine-assisted wellbeing and learning experiences rooted in the therapeutic power of horses and the natural environment.

Our work centres on the belief that meaningful connection with ourselves, others, animals, and nature can transform lives. Through carefully designed, trauma-informed programmes, we support children, young people, women, and vulnerable adults experiencing mental health challenges, emotional distress, or disconnection from education and community life.

Therapeutic Impact

At the heart of Wisdom of Equus is our equine-assisted therapeutic work. We create safe, reflective spaces where participants can build trust, regulate emotions, and develop confidence through interaction with horses. The horse becomes a sensitive, non-judgmental mirror, helping individuals explore their inner world, develop communication skills, and reconnect with their sense of self. These sessions support recovery from anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, isolation, and emotional overwhelm, often offering breakthroughs where conventional interventions have been ineffective.

We also prioritise nature-based wellbeing, making use of our peaceful, low-impact rural site to facilitate mindfulness, outdoor activity, and reconnection with the land. This combination of horse and nature therapy promotes resilience, healing, and empowerment in a holistic, grounded way.

Educational Opportunities

Wisdom of Equus also provides equine-assisted learning and outdoor education programmes that promote engagement, personal growth, and skills development. Our sessions help children and young people—especially those excluded or struggling in mainstream education—build confidence, communication, and responsibility in a practical, non-classroom setting.

Participants learn not only about horse care and behaviour, but also about themselves: how to lead, listen, make decisions, and work as a team. We incorporate numeacy, literacy, environmental education, conservation, and traditional rural skills, encouraging young people to connect with their environment and community in meaningful ways.

Our education work also supports life transitions, helping young people move into employment or further learning, and offering adults the chance to reconnect with learning in a nurturing, empowering space.
